SNOWMOBILING ON PLOWED HOUGHTON COUNTY ROADS IS PROHIBITED

But you may drive on the plowed shoulder when no other room on the right-of-way is available; as long as you drive with reasonable care and at a reasonable speed.

This is the interpretation of state law allowing snowmobiles to drive within county road right-of-ways only in counties so posted.

Snowmobiling is not permitted on state highways, and laws within the cities and villages may differ depending on local ordinances.

Increasing complaints of high-speed racing and near accidents with cars and trucks are going to eliminate convenient snowmobiling in Houghton County.

Please, when you are using the plowed shoulders, drive with extreme caution, at a reasonable speed and watch for cross roads and parked cars. A snowmobile is no match for a 3000 lb. car.

Have a safe snowmobiling trip and help preserve the Copper Country's reputation of a Winter Wonderland.
